Amar Guriro has left Independent Urdu after seven years to join Saga Digital AI as Editor-in-Chief, marking a major shift in his career toward AI-driven journalism and digital innovation.

ISLAMABAD — Prominent Pakistani environmental journalist Amar Guriro has concluded his seven-year association with Independent Urdu, marking the end of a significant chapter in his reporting career. He has now joined Saga Digital AI as Editor-in-Chief, stepping into a leadership role that aligns with the rapidly evolving digital media landscape.

Career shift toward AI-driven journalism

Guriro told JournalismPakistan that the transition comes after 25 years in journalism, during which he built a reputation for in-depth reporting on environmental issues and contributed to major national and international publications. He said his decision to move to Saga Digital AI reflects his belief that the future of media lies in the fusion of traditional journalism and artificial intelligence.

“AI is transforming how stories are gathered, analyzed, and delivered. It helps us work faster, tailor news for audiences, and experiment with storytelling formats that were not previously possible,” Guriro said. He added that his editorial and field experience provide the foundation needed to ensure credibility and impact in an AI-supported newsroom.

A new chapter with Saga Digital AI

Guriro described Saga Digital AI as a first-of-its-kind digital platform in Pakistan and expressed enthusiasm about shaping its editorial direction. “I am excited to combine my experience with AI-driven innovation to build a media space that informs, inspires, and empowers readers,” he noted.

Throughout his career, Guriro has written and reported for Newsweek Pakistan, The Friday Times, NatureNews.com, Daily Times, and Geo English, developing a strong profile as an environmental specialist.
