PEMRA Council recommends fines on BOL for hate campaign

ISLAMABAD – The PEMRA Council of Complaints, Karachi has recommended fines on BOL News for a hate campaign in its program Aisay Nahin Chalay Ga.

The electronic media regulator said Friday that the council took up 13 complaints against BOL. Six of these were filed by Hassan Mustafa, Group Director Geo TV, two by Geo anchor Talat Hussain, as many by Geo CEO Mir Ibrahim and three by Shahzeb Khanzada, Najam Sethi, and Muaaz Ahsan.

Hassan Mustafa accused BOL of airing life-threatening and defamatory hate speech against Geo-Jang Group head Mir Shakilur Rahman, Mir Ibrahim and the channel.

The council recommended fines of Rs 200,000 and Rs 100,000 respectively on BOL which must be paid within 15 days.

The program Aisay Nahin Chalay Ga was hosted by Aamir Liaquat. He quit the channel last month on a sour note and demanded his dues be cleared.

He also apologized to individuals he targeted in his show. “I apologize to all those individuals whom I may have hurt during my program.  I hope they will forgive me. What I did was the management’s policy,” he said in a video posted on social media in November.
