APNS bans Sindh government adverts

KARACHI: The All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) has directed its member publications and accredited advertizing agencies not to publish and release Sindh government adverts after a promise to clear outstanding dues of over Rs 400m was not honored.

An advertisement in Dawn published Sunday, said due to the provincial government’s non-payment of this staggering amount, the financial survival of APNS member publications had been irretrievably compromised and continues to be threatened.

The Sindh government’s advertizements were published between 2010 and 2012, the announcement said.

The advert says that on October 1, Sharjeel Inam Memon, the Minister for Information, Sindh had assured APNS that all payments had been sanctioned and would be made to the APNS member publications on a priority basis by November 15, 2012.

However, this promise was not fulfilled, prompting APNS to cease publishing the government adverts from December 15 onwards until further notice.
