RIUJ condemns illegal layoffs by news organizations, salary delays
The Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists has criticized media organizations for illegal staff layoffs and delayed salaries. A committee was formed to address these issues directly with management.

ISLAMABAD – The Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) has condemned media houses that have illegally sacked staff and are not disbursing salaries on time.

In a meeting presided over by RIUJ President Mubarak Zeb Khan (pictured), the house expressed concern over the inordinate delay in paying off salaries to staff by INP news agency, Channel 7 and others.

A committee headed by Finance Secretary Asghar Chaudhary was constituted to contact the management of news organizations not paying their employees.

The sacking of a Daily Jehan Pakistan photographer was also discussed and it was decided the RIUJ president write a letter to the paper’s editor.

The house made it clear that any illegal sacking of staff by any news organization would not be taken lying down and the matter taken up with the Implementation Tribunal for Newspaper Employees (ITNE).

Afzal Butt, President Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), also attended the meeting. The participants discussed matters related to the January 26-28 meeting of PFUJ’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) in Hyderabad.
