Publisher ordered to appear in court
The Lahore High Court has summoned the publisher of Ash-Sharq International regarding contempt of court. The hearing stems from allegations of false advertisements published by the newspaper.

RAWALPINDI: Justice Ijaz Ahmed of Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench has ordered the publisher of Urdu-daily Ash-Sharq International to appear in court on June 18.

The judge directed the Deputy Advocate General Punjab to ensure the presence of publisher Yasmin Majeed on the next date of hearing. The court gave these orders after hearing a contempt of court petition filed by Abdul Waheed Anjum, Bureau Chief of Ash-Sharq Rawalpindi on June 11. The petitioner claimed the newspaper’s management was continually publishing baseless and false advertisements against him in violation of an earlier High Court order.

He said on June 3 the court directed the DCO and others involved to submit para-wise answers to his application and ordered the newspaper to stop publishing the advertisement immediately.

Meanwhile, the petitioner has also challenged the “illegal” publication of the newspaper from Islamabad by submitting applications with DCOs in Rawalpindi and Islamabad and Registrar Press Information Department.
