PTI files complaint against Geo-Jang Group for 'malicious, factually incorrect' reporting

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf has formally lodged a complaint with the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) against the Jang-Geo Group for its ‘malicious, factually incorrect and baseless story’ about Imran Khan’s third marriage.

In its complaint, PTI said that The News reporter Umar Cheema’s story that was also aired by Geo News in multiple bulletins had targeted the integrity of Khan and damaged his repute.

The News story was headlined ‘Imran Khan marries again?’

The PTI said that Imran Khan categorically denied the news through his spokesperson on January 7, stating that he had sent a proposal to Ms Maneka and refuted the claim that any nikah had taken place.

“However, it was appalling to notice the reflection of criminal mindset portrayed by Jang and Geo Group….continuation of its malice against Imran Khan sought to publish multiple reports in its newspapers (The News and Jang), on-aired defamatory news reports and held talk shows on Geo News based on the report.”

The PTI pointed out that this malicious practice of media is a direct blow to the universal human norms and values, journalistic ethics.
