Imran Khan stirs up a hornet's nest
Imran Khan's allegations against the government regarding media funding have led to a strong backlash from journalists. The PFUJ is demanding evidence and threatening protests if not provided.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan's allegation that the government gave billions of rupees to media houses and journalists has angered them no end.

The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) Tuesday demanded that Imran provide proof to support his accusations within three days, failing which they will hold protests and also possibly consider legal action.

During a public rally in Jhelum Sunday, the PTI leader said Rs10 billion were given to media houses in one year while 3 billion are being handed over to them each month.

PFUJ President Afzal Butt said in a statement that Imran had attempted to defame the entire journalist community and in case he is unable to provide proof, he should tender an apology.

A talk show on Geo Television Tuesday night focused specifically on Imran's allegations with the guests saying the charges of wrongdoing by the government, media houses and journalists were mere allegations.
