LAHORE - Renowned Pakistani poet, writer, and human rights activist Fahmida Riaz passed away in Lahore on Wednesday following a long illness. She was 73.
She authored more than 15 books on poetry and fiction, and also headed the National Book Foundation.
She is regarded as a pioneer in feminist literature.
She left Pakistan to live in self-exile in India during the rule of former military ruler General Zia-ul-Haq and returned only after his death.
Riaz was born in Meerut, India on July 28, 1945.
Some of her famous works include Godaavari, Badan Dareeda and Khana e Aab O Gila.
