Children of slain journalist Khalil Jibran seek safety amid threats

PESHAWAR—The teenage children of slain journalist Khalil Jibran have reported feeling under constant threat after unknown men torched a snooker club on their commercial property.

In a report by Dawn on Wednesday, Jibran Khail, 17, and Hoor Afridi, 15, expressed their insecurity in a video message following their father's murder on June 18. They revealed that the snooker club, which serves as their only source of income, was set on fire on Sunday night, and they have been pressured to shut it down.

Hoor Afridi shared that their entire family is under immense pressure and fears that miscreants could attack their home. She expressed concerns about continuing her education, along with her two sisters, as they have been confined to their home since their father’s murder.

Both Jibran and Hoor voiced their fears for their lives and appealed for their family to be relocated to a safer place.

Khalil Jibran of Khyber News and a former President of the Landi Kotal Press Club was fatally shot while traveling home from a dinner party. He was attacked near his home in the Sultan Khel district by two armed men who stopped his vehicle, ordered him and his companions out, and then opened fire on Jibran before fleeing the scene. Jibran died before receiving medical care. His companion, lawyer Sajjad Khan, suffered minor injuries.
