Speculation vs Clarification: Minister Solangi's take on fuel price trends
Minister Murtaza Solangi addressed misquotes regarding fuel price speculation attributed to him by a news article. He emphasized the factors affecting petroleum pricing.

ISLAMABAD—Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi Tuesday complained that Dawn had misquoted him on the issue of fuel prices.

In a post on X, the minister said he never hinted at what the newspaper reported. The story by Khaleeq Kiani on OGRA warning against speculating about the decrease in petroleum prices said: “Interestingly, the hints at price reductions were made by Minister Gohar Ejaz and caretaker Information Minister Murtaza Solangi, both of whom have no role in determining the prices.”

In response, the minister said: “It will help both @dawn_com and @khaleeqkiani to listen to the question asked of me and my complete answer.”

APP quoted the minister as saying that the minister was not in the business of speculations. “During a presser, I was asked if the prices of POL were about to go up north. I clearly said the prices of petroleum products are mainly determined keeping in the prices in the international market and the dollar-rupee exchange rate.” However, he added he did mention a report about a possible cut in the prices of petroleum.

Key Points

  • Murtaza Solangi denied being quoted accurately by Dawn.
  • He explained that fuel prices are determined by international market trends.
  • A warning from OGRA was issued against speculating on price reductions.
