ISLAMABAD - Some journalists have called for providing proper treatment to ailing former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who is serving a seven-year term for graft.

They criticized the PTI government on Twitter for not handling this issue with care and dignity.

Nasim Zehra of 24 News had to face trolls for calling on President Arif Alvi for reducing Sharif’s jail term: “NawazSharif is a convict, 4 life he has been banned from politics & acc 2 law most asets have been confiscated. He is patient with 8 stents, kidney patient & after his wife a broken man. Pres @ArifAlvi reduce sentence & let NS go 4 treatment. Lets show sensitivity 2 al those v can.”

Aaj News presenter Asma Sherazi regretted that Sharif is not being provided treatment. “Nawaz Sharif is three times Prime Minster but not allowed treatment, sad, why and how gvt is ignoring while a dictator who abrogated the constitution twice sitting outside and giving interviews.”

Former Daily Times Editor Raza Rumi expressed shock over the callous tweets regarding Sharif’s health. “Shocked by callous tweets on Nawaz Sharif’s health condition. It is incredible that so many people are trivializing his health condition just like they called Kalsoom Nawaz’s illness as drama. Where is this apathy, insensitivity coming from? Why the worst of ppl. appears on SM?”

Sharif, according to a tweet by his daughter Maryam Nawaz, refused to go to the hospital for treatment, saying he has been humiliated by taking him from one hospital to another.

In a tweet in Urdu, Geo News anchor Hamid Mir also called for taking proper care of the former prime minister. He regretted that on this issue, Nawaz Sharif is facing ridicule.

Murtaza Solangi, a former head of Radio Pakistan, in a video criticized the government for not properly providing treatment to Sharif. He regretted that former army chief Pervez Musharraf had been allowed to go abroad for treatment despite facing a treason case.
