Six running for president in KhUJ polls

The Khyber Union of Journalists will hold elections on September 14. Six candidates are contesting for the president's role, while ten will vie for general secretary.

PESHAWAR: Six candidates are in run for the office of the president of Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ) while 10 candidates are contesting for the post of general secretary. The elections are slated for September 14.

The election committee, KhUJ met here with its chairman senior journalist Wasim Ahmad Shah in the chair. Other members including Shahid Hameed, Tauseef-ur-Rehman and Bilal Ahmad also attended the meeting.

The committee reviewed applications submitted by some candidates regarding withdrawal from the polls. The committee later issued the final list of the candidates.

According to the list six candidates, including Jamshid Baghwan, Nisar Mehmood, Syed Bokhar Shah, Saiful Islam Saifi, Nisar Mohammad and Ibrahim Khan are in run for president while five candidates including Waheed-ur-Rehman, Farmanullah Jan, Shehzad Ahmad, Mehmood Khattak and Mohammad Naeem are contesting for the two posts of vice president.

Likewise, 10 candidates including Zafar Iqbal, Shahabuddin, Omar Yunas, Jehanzeb Siddiq, Imran Bokhari, Tariq Aafaq, Safeerullah, Saleem Kashmiri and Khalid Khan Kheshgi are contesting for the position of general secretary.

Three candidates Mohammad Daud, Shazia Nisar and Aftab Ahmad are contesting for the office of joint secretary while three - Abdul Basir Qalandar, Khurram Pervez and Ammad Waheed are running for finance secretary.

Similarly, 31 candidates are in the run for 10 seats on the executive council.
