Shibli Faraz appointed information minister; Asim Bajwa in, Firdous out

ISLAMABAD—Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday appointed Chairman CPEC Lt. Gen. (Retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa as his special assistant on information and broadcasting in place of Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan, and named Senator Shibli Faraz as the federal minister for information and broadcasting.

One notification from the Cabinet Division announced Gen Bajwa's appointment. At the same time, the second said that the prime minister had removed Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan from the office of special assistant to the PM on information and broadcasting.

Pakistan Television (PTV) announced the appointment of Faraz as the new federal minister.

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry greeted the two on Twitter. "Truly an honourable and dignified man Shibli faraz has been appointed news Information minister of Pak, and a brilliant Asim Saleem Bajwa appointed SAPM on info both ll make a great team… all the best."

Faraz is the leader of the House in the Senate. Gen Bajwa is a former head of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Dr. Firdous was appointed as the special assistant to PM on information and broadcasting in April last year.
