Shamim loses battle with cancer

KARACHI: Senior journalist Shamim-ur-Rahman passed away here on Tuesday after a battle with cancer. He was 70.

 

During his career that spanned 40 years, Shamim worked for PTV, Dawn and AFP.

 

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf have expressed their condolences.

 

Muhammad Amin Yousuf, Secretary General of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), told APP Shamim was not only an active journalist but also a nice and friendly human being.

 

He said he played a prominent role in trade union activities and remained an office-bearer of the Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) and the Karachi Press Club (KUJ).

 

Amin said late Shamim’s contributions in the realms of journalism would be long remembered.
