ISLAMABAD – Prominent political analysts Dr. Shahid Masood, in custody of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), said on Saturday a crackdown on media was set to start.
“This is my personal opinion and I could be wrong but from today onwards a crackdown on media will start, followed by a crackdown on social media also,” he said in a video message.
On Saturday FIA was granted a five-day remand of Masood in the Pakistan Television corruption case.
Masood, who at one time headed Pakistan Television is accused of embezzlement as he allegedly entered into a contract with a fake company for earning media rights from the Pakistan Cricket Board.
The PTV reportedly suffered a financial loss of Rs37 million as the funds were released to the fake company but the rights were not acquired from 2008 to 2013.
