ISLAMABAD: Newly-launched Urdu language daily Jehan Pakistan suffered a setback after its Chief Executive Officer Abid Abdullah reportedly left the organization.
Abid helped put together the entire launch team but was blamed for hiring staff at exorbitant salaries. Some were signed up at salaries five to eight times of what they were previously drawing, insiders say.
Jehan Pakistan, a publication of the University of Lahore, is barely two months old and first hit the newsstands in Karachi at the start of November and began publishing from Lahore earlier this month. The paper is likely to come out from Islamabad on January 1.
It was not immediately clear if Abid had resigned himself or was asked to go. He is the nephew of the newspaper’s owner and joined from the Jang Group where he was Group Executive Editor and Group Executive Director.
