Mazhar Iqbal, a senior journalist in Pakistan, died in a traffic accident on Tuesday. His passing has deeply affected the journalism community, highlighting his contributions to press rights.

ISLAMABAD — Senior journalist and prominent figure in Pakistani journalistic politics, Mazhar Iqbal, tragically passed away in a traffic accident on Tuesday.

According to details, Iqbal had left his residence on a motorcycle to withdraw cash from an ATM when his bike collided with an electric pole, resulting in fatal injuries.

Mazhar Iqbal was not only an experienced journalist but also an influential and active participant in the politics of the National Press Club (NPC). Colleagues remember him as someone who entered journalistic politics with deep passion and later became well-versed in addressing the issues and challenges faced by media professionals.

His sudden demise has sent shockwaves through the journalist community, with many expressing grief over the loss of a respected colleague and advocate for press rights.

“Mazhar Iqbal, who had once entered journalistic politics with great passion, had by now developed deep insight into journalists’ issues. His sudden death has left me, along with the entire journalist community, deeply saddened. May Allah make his journey in the Hereafter easy,” senior journalist and President of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) Afzal Butt said in a condolence message.

Funeral prayers for Mazhar Iqbal were to be held later Tuesday at the Model Town Humak graveyard in Islamabad, where friends, colleagues, and members of the press fraternity are expected to gather in large numbers to pay their respects.
