ISLAMABAD: The Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) is urging the Daily Times managers to settle all outstanding dues of staff terminated illegally.
“RIUJ stands in solidarity with former and current employees of Daily Times who are facing problems because of delay in settlement of emoluments and payment of salaries,” the union’s President Waqar Satti said.
"The RIUJ is concerned over illegal termination of senior photojournalist Shabbir Hussain whose 12-month salary and 11-years of dues have not been cleared. It is extremely regrettable that Daily Times is terminating its permanent employees and refusing to pay their dues,” Waqar said.
“We call on the Daily Times management to ensure the dues of all sacked employees whose cases are being heard by courts be cleared without delay otherwise RIUJ would be compelled to go for stern action against organizations that do not comply with their obligations under national and international laws.
