RIUJ forms committee to collect information on journalists facing salary delays
The Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists has formed a committee in response to delayed salaries. This action follows a Supreme Court directive to media owners.

ISLAMABAD - In the light of a Supreme Court order, the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) has constituted a five-member committee tasked with gathering information regarding delay by media houses in the disbursement of salaries and pending payments of journalists.

This week, the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mian Saqib Nisar took notice of the delayed salaries of journalists belonging to the print and electronic media. He sought a complete record from the media owners in this regard within 10 days.

The RIUJ committee headed by Qaiser Shirazi has Abdul Wahid Janjua, Sohail Siddique, Shakila Jalil, and Waqar Kazmi.

The terms of reference of the committee will be:

  • visiting TV channels and newspaper offices to identify individual cases of delayed salaries/pending payment
  • seeking relevant proofs from individual journalists
  • seeking details of specific months, year, etc.
  • seeking details of cases of journalists whose cases are pending in the Implementation Tribunal for Newspaper Employees.
