RIUJ constitutes committee to probe attack on Waqt News journalist
The Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists has established a committee to investigate an attack on journalist Matiullah Jan. The committee aims to uncover the motives behind the attack and provide a report within five days.

ISLAMABAD – The Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) Monday constituted a fact-finding committee to probe the attack on Waqt News journalist Matiullah Jan.

The committee is headed by senior Geo News anchor Hamid Mir with Azaz Syed (Geo), Kalbe Ali (Dawn), Sagheer Chaudhry (Channel 24) and Sardar Hameed (Waqt News) as members.

The fact-finding committee is tasked with:

  • recording the statement of Matiullah to know about the possible motive behind the attack
  • visiting the scene of the attack
  • following up and receiving regular updates from police
  • finalizing its report within five working days

Matiullah was attacked as he headed to his ancestral home Sunday around 4:00pm. The attackers on two motorcycles tossed a brick on his car’s windshield while negotiating a turn. Matiullah and his family escaped unhurt.
