ISLAMABAD – Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry (pictured) on Wednesday said that the government plans to merge Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) and the Press Council of Pakistan (PCP).
“One single authority – Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority – will regulate print, electronic and social media,” he said in a press talk.
He pointed out that opposition was not being given as much coverage on private television channels as Pakistan Television.
The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf government last week announced giving the state-run Pakistan Television and Radio Pakistan complete editorial freedom.
