PFUJ denounces threats to Journalists Defence Committee
The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists has condemned threats made against the Journalists Defence Committee. They call on the government to ensure justice for attacked journalist Asad Ali Toor.

ISLAMABAD—Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has condemned threats to members of a team appointed by Journalists Defence Committee of Pakistan Bar Council to pursue the case of journalist Asad Ali Toor (pictured), attacked by unknown assailants in Islamabad.

PFUJ President Shahzada Zulfiqar and Secretary-General Nasir Zaidi said that the state organs were creating hurdles in the investigations instead of working within the ambit of law and ensuring justice to the victim. “We urge the government to control those who are involved in attacks on journalists, ruining the peace and bringing a bad name to the country,” they demanded.

PFUJ leaders said that it was the right of every citizen to have access to justice. It was the state and the government institutions’ responsibility to ensure the safety and security of citizens and journalists.

They appreciated the Pakistan Bar Council and the Journalists Defence Committee for helping pursue the cases of journalists in courts and during investigations.
