ISLAMABAD—Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has strongly condemned the killing of senior journalist Athar Mateen in a daylight firing incident on a busy Karachi road.
PFUJ President Shahzada Zulfiqar and Secretary-General Nasir Zaidi condemned the cold-blooded murder of Mateen and demanded immediate arrest of his killers.
The union urged the Sindh Government to provide safety and security to the media community, which is being compromised as attacks and violence against journalists are on the sharp rise in Sindh, particularly in Karachi. “This is a sign of ignorance and lethargy on the part of provincial authorities.”
PFUJ also urged PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to take notice of the killing and direct the provincial government to arrest the killers.
Meanwhile, PFUJ has announced countrywide protests on Saturday against the brutal murder.
