ISLAMABAD - Following Wednesday's attack on offices of ARY News, the President Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) Thursday called upon the government to ensure security of media houses and journalists.
At a protest staged by PFUJ, the union's president Afzal Butt said terrorists involved in the attack that injured one employee, must be arrested and given exemplary punishment. The protesters gathered in front of National Press Club (NPC). Condemning the attack, Butt said the government under the National Action Plan needed to review security of news organizations.
Shakeel Anjum, President NPC lamented the government seemed helpless in tackling terrorists and was good only at condemning acts of terror. "Attack on a media outlet in the federal capital is proof of government's incompetence."
NPC Secretary Imran Yaqub and Ali Raza Alvi, President Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists also made speeches and said the government had simply failed to provide security to journalists.
