PEMRA suspends ARY News transmission

ISLAMABAD—Regulator PEMRA suspended the transmission of ARY News Television in different parts of the country on Monday.

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) reportedly ordered the cable operators to take down the channel.

In a text message to its subscribers, service provider Nayatel said: "Transmission of ARY News is suspended on instructions of PEMRA till further notice. Inconvenience is regretted."

PTI leader Shireen Mazari took to Twitter and shared a screenshot showing the suspension of ARY News transmission on Nayatel. "So I was watching ary right now and it suddenly got taken off air by nayatel. Why? The prog was Reporters. Imported govt's fascism," she tweeted.

According to ARY News, the suspension of TV transmission is a clear violation of Islamabad High Court (IHC) orders which barred PEMRA from closure and relegation of ARY News to lower numbers on TV channels' sequence.

The transmission of ARY News was suspended in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Sialkot, Hyderabad, Faisalabad, and other cities. The position of ARY News was also changed in different areas of Rawalpindi city.

According to ARY News, the suspension of transmission comes hours after the TV channel reported that PM House was behind the controversies and online campaign launched against President Arif Alvi regarding the funerals of the Balochistan helicopter crash martyrs.
