PEMRA directs STV licensees to mention Pak-Afghan border as international border
PEMRA has mandated that STV licensees refer to the Pak-Afghan border as the international border. This directive follows instructions from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to avoid using the term Durand Line.
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has directed all STV licensees to mention Pak-Afghan border as international border instead of calling it Durand Line.
The authority has made it clear in a letter saying the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has given clear instructions that Pak-Afghan border should be referred to only as international border. The letter says that all STV licensees are directed to strictly abide by the fact as the “use of Durand Line for Pak-Afghan border gives impetus to the confusion/subversion created/spread by hostile powers regarding Pakistan-Afghanistan International Border and status of the Federally Administrated Tribal Areas of Pakistan.”
It also says that use of this word by national media is then picked up by international media and this trend may lead to the issue of national integration in future as Afghanistan at the behest of India is always active to make it an international issue.

Key Points

  • PEMRA directs all STV licensees to mention the Pak-Afghan border as the international border.
  • The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued instructions regarding the terminology used.
  • The term 'Durand Line' can lead to confusion and subversion related to national borders.
  • Misuse of terms affects national integration and may fuel international disputes.
  • PEMRA emphasizes media responsibility in maintaining accurate representation of borders.
