ISLAMABAD: A possible signing up of Arif Nizami by Dunya TV as group editor for its soon-to-be-published Urdu newspaper has reportedly run into a hurdle which is Pakistan Today. A JournalismPakistan.com source says Dunya owner Mian Amir Mehmood has asked Nizami to merge Pakistan Today with the Dunya Group. The veteran Nizami, who edits the paper, was said to be willing to do so but his investors and Chief Executive Officer Babar Nizami opposed the idea. Negotiations to iron out the issue are still on and also to finalize the emoluments of Nizami. Pakistan Today has been facing serious financial problems in recent months although there were reports its managers had struck a deal with a middle-east based Private Equity Fund. However, on ground there are still no signs of things picking up at the paper which has axed several employees in a bid to steady the ship.
