ISLAMABAD—Digital rights campaigner Nighat Dad has decided to take legal action following online attacks on her.
She announced on Twitter that "due to recent events that have sparked genuine fears for my physical safety, I have finally decided to take legal action, which is well within my legal rights."
Nighat said that she was no stranger to online attacks. "However I have been bearing the brunt of a sustained targeted gendered disinformation campaign by an individual for over two years now because of my work. I have been subjected to cyber stalking, doxxing, gendered abuse and threats."
She said that another malicious campaign had been launched against her due to her complaint.
"My safety and that of other women activists, human rights defenders and female journalists is the responsibility of the state of Pakistan, and I hope appropriate and timely action is taken."
