Mirpur Khas Police register FIR against Sabir Shakir

MIRPUR KHAS—Mirpur Khas police have booked presenter Sabir Shakir, associated with ARY News, for speaking against national institutions.

Mahmood Hassan, a citizen, filed the case under sections 154, 505, and 131 at Mehran police station for sedition and peddling “anti-state” narrative.

The FIR said that the journalist was stoking anti-national sentiments by maligning Pakistan Army and state institutions.

Shakir, a critic of the coalition government, has criticized the current regime in his shows.

Two more journalists, Sami Ibrahim and Arshad Sharif have also been booked under similar patterns and complaints.

The FIRs registered against the journalists elicited alarm from the journalist community, which condemned the “attack on press freedom.”
