Mati smells a rat in NPC fee collection

Matiullah Jan has alleged financial misconduct at the National Press Club regarding membership fees. He claims the staff has failed to provide receipts for payments from new applicants.

ISLAMABAD: Television anchor Matiullah Jan has accused the National Press Club (NPC) staff of not providing payment receipts to applicants seeking new membership.

In a letter to the NPC secretary, he also termed the grant of membership to new applicants illegal and urged him to take note of the illegality.

“Please note that the NPC staff is not providing payment receipts to its members and new applicants. I regret to inform you that the NPC staff has so far collected Rs1200 from each of about 150 applicants for fresh NPC membership but has failed to provide receipts for the payments,” he said in the letter.

Mati ran for president of NPC but lost last year’s elections representing Jago Panel. He also pointed out that even the annual fee of Rs100 collected from council members wasn’t being acknowledged. “I pray and hope that this serious financial irregularity and misconduct is taken serious and urgent note of,” he said.

While referring to Article II Rule 4 and Article II Rule 1(a) of the NPC constitution, he said that grant of membership to fresh applicants was illegal.

He, however, thanked the NPC secretary for extending the scrutiny deadline of the club members on his request through a letter written on 14 Nov 2014.

Mati who hosts a talk-show ‘Apna Apna Gareban’ on Waqt News also asked the secretary if the new members would be given the right to vote in the upcoming elections of the club.
