KPC condemns harassment of journalists

KARACHI: The Karachi Press Club (KPC) has strongly condemned harassment, stone-throwing and mistreatment of senior journalists and Geo News team by activists of the Pakistan Tehrik- e-Insaf (PTI) during the party’s protest in Karachi on December 12.

The KPC’s governing body lamented that though PTI chairman Imran Khan verbally condemns attacks on journalists, he has not taken any practical step against party workers involved in such acts, said a KPC press release issued Saturday.

Meanwhile, KPC Secretary Amir Latif contacted PTI MNA Arif Alvi and protested with him over manhandling of senior journalist Mazhar Abbas, female reporters Sidra Dar, Humaima Malik and Cameraman Zubair Memon and other newspersons.

Arif Alvi, slamming these incidents, maintained that it is not the party policy. He said the party has taken strict notice of the harassment of newspersons.

The PTI lawmaker assured that effective measures will be taken to curb such incidents. He agreed to the suggestion that in future the members of PTI media cell will ensure their presence near the media teams, particularly the Geo News team, during party’s rallies and other program to prevent recurrence of such incidents.—APP
