PESHAWAR – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Thursday passed a resolution condemning the wholesale sackings of media workers by news organizations.
The resolution, tabled by Shaukat Yousafzai and Akram Khan Durrani, demanded that release of government advertisements to media houses be linked to reinstatement of journalists laid off and payment of their outstanding salaries and dues.
Earlier, the journalists boycotted the proceedings of the assembly and demanded the reinstatement of hundreds of their colleagues fired by different organizations.
Shahram Khan Tarakai, Minister Local Government, held negotiations with the protesters and assured them that he would talk to Fawad Chaudhry, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting.
