ISLAMABAD—A former reporter of The Nation has publicly appealed to New York Times Chairman A.G. Sulzberger to reconsider the Pakistani newspaper’s partnership to publish a weekly New York Times edition, citing unpaid salaries for The Nation’s employees over the past two years. The open letter, penned by Israr Ahmed Rajpoot on October 24, was directed to Sulzberger, urging him to address the labor rights issues at The Nation.
In his letter shared online, Rajpoot alleged, “The Nation has reportedly failed to pay its employees for the past two years, a situation that constitutes a serious violation of labor rights.” He emphasized that such actions “undermine the integrity of the media industry” and contribute to “broader human rights violations.” Rajpoot called on The New York Times to uphold ethical standards and advocate for fair compensation for media employees worldwide.
