Journalist Arif Malik denounces viral deep fake video
Arif Malik has publicly denounced a fake video that misrepresents him in an inappropriate context. He has filed a complaint with the FIA to address this issue.

ISLAMABAD—Journalist Arif Malik, currently with WeNews Digital Media, has issued a statement condemning an AI-generated fake video that has gone viral on social media. The video, which falsely depicts Malik in an indecent scenario with Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari, has caused significant distress.

Malik, who previously worked with BOL, Samaa, ARY, and Dawn, clarified that the video is a deep fake, created by manipulating a 15 to 20-second clip from an interview he conducted with Bukhari a few months ago.

"This video is fake and AI-generated," Malik said. "It is wrong to create and spread such fake videos of any citizen."

In response to the situation, Malik has filed a complaint with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), identifying the social media accounts responsible for sharing the video and requesting immediate action.

Malik also urged those producing and spreading such content to cease their activities, highlighting the emotional and reputational harm caused to those wrongfully depicted.

He mentioned that the director of FIA has assured him of taking appropriate measures against the individuals and accounts that propagated the video clip.
