KARACHI – Freelance journalist and a former model Quratulain Ali Khan, popularly known as Annie, was found dead in her apartment here, police said Saturday.

Police said that on arriving at her apartment, they found her dead with some burnt books by her side.

Daily Pakistan reported that she lived alone in her apartment in Qasr-e-Zainab near Karachi Gymkhana.

Her friend Hasan Zaidi announced her death on Twitter: “My friend Annie Ali Khan, former model who branched off into journalism, documentary production and as a writer has been found dead in her flat after a fire in it. RIP beautiful soul.”

Police said that the doctors at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) confirmed she died of suffocation (asphyxia).

Annie authored ‘The missing daughters of Pakistan’, which she wrote for Herald last year.

She also contributed to several newspapers and publications including Dawn and The Express Tribune.
