LONDON—New Vision TV, a UK-based ARY broadcaster, has formally apologized to the former finance minister and PMLN leader Ishaq Dar (pictured), admitting that allegations of corruption and misuse of authority against him were baseless and fabricated. The defamatory remarks were made during two talk shows aired by ARY on July 8, 2019, and Aug 8, 2019.
ARY UK, in a statement of apology aired on Monday, stated that “We unconditionally apologise to Mr Ishaq Dar for the significant distress, upset and embarrassment which these broadcasts have caused him.”
“[Ishaq Dar] never managed the Financial Monitoring Unit… never impeded [its] work, nor did he do anything to protect anybody in any case including the alleged Choudhury Sugar Mills case,” the channel further expressed.
Dar had sued ARY - which operates under the company name New Vision Television (NVTV) in UK and Europe – for £200,000 damages, apology and legal costs for allegations made by ARY anchors Chaudhary Ghulam Hussain and Sabir Shakir during The Reporters’ program and by Shahzad Akbar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Accountability, on Powerplay program hosted by Arshad Sharif.
