Indian content: PEMRA issues fourth show-cause notice to Urdu 1 this month
PEMRA has taken action against Urdu 1 Television for repeatedly airing Indian dramas despite a ban. The channel faces consequences if it does not comply with regulations by July 14.

ISLAMABAD – Electronic media regulator Monday served a show-cause notice on Urdu 1 Television for the fourth time this month for airing Indian plays.

A PEMRA release said the channel has until July 14 to submit its reply.

Urdu 1 aired the following Indian dramas: Saath Nibhana Sithia, Ye Hain Mohabtain, Namkran, Ye Rishta Kia Kehlata Hai, and Ishqbaz.

Airing of Indian content by private TV channels was banned by PEMRA on October 19, 2016. The regulator said Urdu 1 had violated that directive.

Urdu 1 was issued notices earlier on July 3, 6, and 7. The channel’s CEO is required to appear for a personal hearing in July 14.
