IHC summons Nawa-i-Waqt Group boss Rameeza Nizami in contempt case
The Islamabad High Court has ordered Rameeza Nizami to appear in a contempt case related to a broadcast about encroachment issues. The court warned of issuing arrest warrants if she fails to attend the hearing on February 16.

ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad High Court has directed Rameeza Nizami, Chief Executive Officer of Nawa-i-Waqt Group to appear in person on February 16 in a contempt of court case and warned of issuing arrest warrants if she did not do so.

Dawn reported Tuesday that Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui passed the orders while hearing the contempt case that relates to a program aired on Waqt News Television on February 5.

Matiullah Jan hosted the program Apna Apna Gareban that focused on encroachment by lawyers of a football ground in Sector F-8, Islamabad.

Dawn said that as per the order issued by IHC, the anchorperson was unaware of the conditions of the constitutional provision related to the freedom of expression.

Advocate Safeer Hussain Shah sought exemption of a personal appearance of Ms. Nizami due to her ailment.

“Since the proceedings initiated by this court are criminal in nature, therefore, her personal attendance was directed, as this court intends to play the programme in the presence of respondent No.2 (Ms. Nizami) in open court and then to proceed further in the matter,” the court order said.

“Let this matter be adjourned to February 16 with direction for personal appearance of Ms. Rameeza Majid Nizami, otherwise process in accordance with law, i.e warrants of arrest shall be issued,” the order said.
