ISLAMABAD—The Islamabad High Court Wednesday summoned Mir Shakeel ur Rehman, the Jang Group owner, after his newspapers, The News and Jang, published adverts against the judiciary.
The ads, published on May 23 and May 24, were given by the family of slain barrister Fahad Malik. The family sought Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial's intervention, claiming that the killers had "struck a deal with ruling judge" in the case. The CJP was requested to transfer the case to an "impartial and non-partisan judge of dignity."
The court ordered Aamir Ghuri, editor of the paper's Rawalpindi-Islamabad edition, to tender an apology, while Rehman was asked to appear before the court on May 30.
The court did not accept a verbal apology from the paper's editor.
