IHC issues contempt notices to Matiullah Jan, Rameeza Nizami, and producer
Matiullah Jan received a contempt notice from the Islamabad High Court for a show critiquing the judiciary. Rameeza Nizami and the program's producer were also notified.

ISLAMABAD – Matiullah Jan (pictured, left), host of the program Apna Apna Gareban on Waqt News Television was on Wednesday issued a contempt notice by the Islamabad High Court for airing a show seen to be against the judiciary.

Rameeza Majid Nizami (pictured, right), Managing Director of Nawa-i-Waqat Group of Publications, and the program producer were also served contempt notices.

Matiullah hosted a program relating to the illegal encroachment in Sector F-8 of a soccer ground by lawyers. During the show, he aired an old clip of a lawyer stating that Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqi had permitted them to encroach on the ground.

Justice Siddiqui took notice of this and ordered Matiullah to appear before the court at the next hearing, failing which regulator PEMRA would cancel the channel’s license.

Meanwhile, Matiullah seemed undeterred and tweeted Wednesday: “15 minutes ago a judge of Islamabad High Court called me on phone and threatened me of dire consequences for my programme on F-8 Kurchery football ground illegal occupation by lawyers during which a lawyer mentioned him as one of judge who heard such cases.”
