Join our WhatsApp channelRAWALPINDI—Taskeen Zafar, the iconic voice of Radio Pakistan, passed away in Rawalpindi on Sunday after a brief illness. She was 67.
Taskeen, born in Rawalpindi in 1957, had a broadcasting career spanning over four decades. She joined Radio Pakistan as an announcer in 1980 and became renowned for her eloquent voice and unique style of reading news. In addition to her work at Radio Pakistan, she also read news and hosted music programs on Pakistan Television.
In recognition of her outstanding contributions, she was awarded the Presidential Pride of Performance last year. Her death is a significant loss to Radio Pakistan and the entire broadcasting fraternity, who mourn the passing of a true legend.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, expressed his grief, stating, "Taskeen Zafar was a talented and experienced newscaster. Her death has resulted in an irreparable loss not only to Radio Pakistan but to the entire media industry." He extended his heartfelt condolences to her family and prayed for her eternal peace.
Secretary of Information and Broadcasting, Shahera Shahid, also expressed deep sorrow over Taskeen Zafar's passing, calling her an asset to Radio Pakistan. She noted that the void created by her demise could never be filled and extended her condolences to Taskeen's family.
Director General Radio Pakistan, Saeed Ahmed Shaikh, echoed these sentiments, praising Taskeen's matchless services in the broadcasting field. He stated, "Radio Pakistan lost a great asset today. Taskeen Zafar earned nationwide recognition as a newscaster and will remain a source of inspiration and pride for us in the times ahead. She will be dearly missed."
