Hearing of contempt case against Matiullah on August 6
The Supreme Court is set to hear Matiullah Jan's contempt of court case on August 6. The case follows his abduction and earlier notice from the court.

ISLAMABAD-The Supreme Court will hold the next hearing of the contempt of court case against journalist Matiullah Jan on Thursday (August 6) In a tweet, Geo News reporter Azaz Syed said the Supreme Court would hear the case on August 6, adding earlier it was expected that the case would be taken up after August 10. He wished Mati the best of luck. On July 16, 2020, the court issued a contempt notice to Mati over an alleged tweet against judges and judiciary. However, a day before the hearing, unknown men abducted Mati from Islamabad’s G-6 sector. The footage of his kidnapping was widely shared on social media. When Mati finally appeared before the court, Islamabad Police were asked to record his statement, and he was given two weeks to prepare his response to the contempt notice. Meanwhile, another journalist Asif Bashir tweeted that the IG Islamabad had submitted a report with the Supreme Court regarding Mati’s abduction. In the Urdu tweet, Bashir said, according to the report, no department is cooperating in identifying the culprits. It added that NADRA did not respond to the request for identifying the abductors. Similarly, Bashir said that the “relevant” institution did not share mobile call data or the geo-fencing report or the footage from the Safe City cameras. The report requests for forming a JIT to probe the incident. A picture of the report’s front page accompanies the tweet.
