The Geo-Jang Group plans to initiate a campaign following a court victory against ARY. The UK court ruled against ARY for airing defamatory programs against the group and its chairman.Summary
ISLAMABAD – Following its victory in a UK court case against bitter rival ARY, the Geo-Jang Group is reportedly ready to launch a massive campaign from Monday in this regard.
For long ARY had been attacking the Geo-Jang Group and its boss Mir Shakil-ur-Rehman and aired 24 programs that the court found “seriously defamatory” and which “simply had no foundation.”
The campaign is said to be focused on ARY and the “lies that it has been spreading against the group,” an insider tells JournalismPakistan.com. “It will cover both print and television.”
On December 23 ARY UK had to broadcast the highly critical judgment against it, as ordered by Judge Sir David Eady. It was to be repeated on December 24.
The London court also awarded £185,000 in libel damages to Mir Shakil - one of the highest general compensatory awards in recent years.
