Founding editor of Qaumi Akhbar Ilyas Shakir passes away
Ilyas Shakir, a prominent figure in Pakistani journalism, has died at 67 years old. He founded the newspaper Qaumi Akhbar and contributed significantly to the field.

KARACHI - Senior journalist Ilyas Shakir passed away on Saturday following a long illness. He was 67.

Born in Hyderabad in 1951, Shakir did his M.A. in Political Science from Sindh University and took up journalism as a correspondent working out of Hyderabad.

He move to Karachi in 1977 and worked as a reporter, analyst and staff reporter until 1988 when he brought out his own newspaper Qaumi Akhbar.

Shakir was on the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) Executive Committee for several years and also served as the secretary-general of Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) in 1997-98.
