FIA frees Amir Mir and Imran Shafqat on bail
The FIA has freed journalists Amir Mir and Imran Shafqat after their reported disappearance. Their arrest sparked significant public backlash and calls for their release.

LAHORE—The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has released journalists Amir Mir and Imran Shafqat who had earlier been picked up and reported missing in Lahore.

According to a press release issued by FIA, both journalists were released on bail.

Hamid Mir, senior journalist and brother of Amir Mir, in his recent tweet, stated: "FIA just announced that they released journalists Amir Mir and Imran Shafqat on bail. According to FIA press release both journalists were arrested for their alleged contempt against Judiciary, army and some “women” but FIA never mentioned the names of the “women."

Many people criticized the government as soon as the news of their arrest surfaced earlier on Saturday. Politicians, leading human rights activists and journalists denounced the action and demanded their release.
