Federal Urdu University gets radio lab

The Federal Urdu University has established a radio lab to enhance the learning experience for Mass Communications students. Named after Dr Yasir Rizvi, the lab is fully equipped but requires technical staff to operate.

KARACHI: Federal Urdu University of Arts, Sciences and Technology has set up a radio lab for students of their Mass Communications Department and it has been named after slain associate professor of University of Karachi, Dr Yasir Rizvi. The Express Tribune reported the lab is fully equipped but needs some supervisors, technical and monitoring staff to make it operational. “In almost every private university, students have the opportunity to practice what they study,” said the project manager, Irfan Aziz. “In public-sector universities, however, the situation is completely different.” Mass Communication is a practical subject and students should be trained to meet the demands of the media houses, he said. “Our aim is to make our students competent and able to address demands of the industry,” he said. The paper reported that the radio lab comprises two rooms, one for recording and the other for mixing, with a multi-track recording system. Two dedicated servers for voice editing and two local voice recorders for sound proof recording are also available in the lab which keep the recording 75 percent sound proof.
