ISLAMABAD: The Rawalpindi -Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) held a candlelight vigil at the National Press Club Tuesday to mark Youm-e-Shaudha in remembrance of media persons killed in Pakistan.
Afzal Butt, President Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) said on the occasion that successive governments had done nothing to arrest killers of journalists. He however, made it clear that the journalist fraternity would continue its struggle until justice was provided to families of those killed.
Widow of slain photojournalist Azizullah Haidri said that "we are the voice of media persons who have been killed." She called on the government to arrest the killers and give them exemplary punishment.
Bilal Dar, secretary general RIUJ also addressed the sizeable gathering. He said it was a pity that families of slain journalists were still awaiting justice as the government had made no serious effort to nab the murderers.
