Court orders immediate restoration of BOL TV license

KARACHI – The Sindh High Court Wednesday ordered restoration of BOL Television license and declared PEMRA’s decision in this regard as illegal.

A single bench under Justice Zulfiqar Ahmed ruled that BOL TV be allowed to start operations immediately. The Council of Complaints of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) had recommended in its meeting in August 2015 that the license be suspended. PEMRA did exactly that, announcing its decision the following month.

The court has directed PEMRA to submit a detailed explanation on October 6.

BOL was to be launched in 2015 but could not hit the airwaves after a story published in The New York Times accused Axact, parent company of BOL, of selling fake diplomas to students.
