Dr Shahid Masood, a prominent analyst on NewsOne, faces arrest after failing to appear in court for a corruption case involving Pakistan Television. The court's decision follows accusations that he engaged in fraudulent contracts leading to substantial financial loss for PTV.Summary
ISLAMABAD – A court on Friday ordered the arrest of prominent NewsOne Television analyst Dr Shahid Masood after his bail was rejected in a Pakistan Television corruption case.
Television channels reported that Masood was twice asked to appear in court on Friday but he stayed away. His lawyer represented him.
His absence angered the court and Special Sessions Judge Irum Niazi ordered that he be arrested and presented.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) obtained his arrest warrants.
It is alleged that as the head of PTV, he had got into a contract with a fake company for earning media rights from Pakistan Cricket Board. As a result of this, PTV suffered a loss of nearly 400 million.
In March this year, the Supreme Court of Pakistan had slapped a three-month ban on Masood and his program for his false reporting about Imran Ali, the man who raped and murdered six-year-old Zainab in Kasur.
