LAHORE—The civil court in Lahore on Friday issued notice to playwright Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar, asking him to file a reply by May 17 over charges of defamation and threatening journalist Farrukh Shahbaz Warraich.
Warraich claimed in his lawsuit that Qamar had threatened him and that his reputation was damaged because of the inappropriate language the playwright used against him.
The journalist said further in his lawsuit that Qamar also launched a campaign against him on social media and he started receiving death threats as a result.
The petitioner said that following the incident of Qamar's abusive language against Marvi Sarmad, he interviewed him and during the interview the playwright lost his temper and started abusing him and threatened to turn off the camera.
The petitioner requested the court order playwright to pay Rs5 crore in damages.
The honorable court adjourned the hearing till May 17.
